                                             Tramp

Beyond the Rainbow

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I am so very tired and know my time on earth must fade.
I saw a wondrous image of a place that’s trouble free,
Where we can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful rainbow, and on the other side
were meadows rich and beautiful, lush green and wide!
Running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh, healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I’ll alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright glow pierced the night.
‘Twas the glow of many candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need me, we’re never far apart,
If you look beyond the rainbow and listen with your heart.

A Prayer  for Tramp

You have been called from the place of your dwelling,
May blessed soul-friends guide you,
May helping spirits lead you,
May the Gatherer of Souls call you,
May the homeward path rise up under your feet
And lead you gladly home.

Tramp, may your journey to the Isles of the Blessed be swift and sure.  We ask that the blessing of the Spirits of the Ancestors, of Time and of Place, and of the journey be with you.

We ask that the Blessing of the Spirits of North and South, East and West be with you.

We ask that you might be blessed with Fire and with Water, with Earth and with Air and with Spirit.

We ask for the blessing of the Lord and Lady of the Animals and the Woods, the Mountains and the Streams.

We ask that the Blessing of the Uncreated One, and of the Created Word, and of the Spirit that is the Inspirer may always be with you.

By the beauty of the fields, the woods and the sea, by the splendor that is set up on all that is.

We send you our own love and blessings, dear Tramp.

As the sun rises in the East and sets in the West, so too are each of us born and so too do each of us die.  But as the sun returns anew each day, so too do we return to earth, refreshed and renewed.

Dear Tramp, know that just as you have been born into the spiritual world, so too will you be born again on earth - when it is right, in your own time.
Now go safely, go well, go surely.
Our hearts are with you.  There is no separation.

Fare Thee Well, Tramp

Where To Bury a Dog
If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call.
Come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death,
and down the well-remembered path to your side again.
And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel, they shall
not growl at him, nor resent his coming, for he belongs there.
People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass
bent by his footfall, who hear no whimper; people who may never really
have had a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is
hidden from them, and which is well worth the knowing. The one best
place then, to bury a dog, is in the heart of his Mistress....

A Parting Prayer

Dear Lord & Lady of the Summerlands, please open your gates
and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
across the Rainbow Bridge.

Assign him to a place of honor,
for he has been a faithful servant
and has always done his best to please me.

Bless the hands that send him to you,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing Tramp from pain and suffering.

Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss.
Help me remember the details of his life
with the love he has shown me.
And grant me the courage to honor Tramp
by sharing those memories with others.

Let Tramp remember me as well
and let him know that I will always love him.
And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow him to accompany those
who will bring me home.

Thank you, Lord & Lady
for the gift of Tramp's companionship
and for the time we've had together.

And thank you, Lord & Lady
for granting me the strength
to give him to you now.

Amen.
